In maca, there are several colors (for the skin), it is indeed a single family but different ecotypes: the red and yellow being the most frequent in the fields, but also a little pink, purple, marbled white and pink, gray, black.

For black maca (5 to 10% in the fields), it is selected at harvest, better for memory and to prevent Alzheimer's according to studies conducted in Peru.

Maca, a plant from the highlands

Maca (Lepidium meyenni Walp) is a tuber from the Andean highlands (Peru and Bolivia), whose ancestral cultivation dates back to the time of the first Incas. Its high content of proteins, vitamins and minerals has always made it an essential product for an adequate and balanced diet.
